with your head full of jazz

it's dexter gordon

it's dexter gordon playing a ballad at midnight

when the moon is god and dex’s saxophone is one of the angels

come down to this world for your rescue    lifting you up

on perfect wings

it's thelonious monk banging on the keyboard

and the melody is slipping away like the tide

but then it rushes back again in a tidal wave

a tsunami to wash away the jazz in your everyday soul

leaving a fresh and new jazz

with your beach clean and empty

it's john coltrane with a measure of justice,

talking to your soul and asking you things

that you can't answer    that you want to answer

but you don't have the words    the language

is still beyond you and there you are

reaching    reaching    and maybe you make it

and maybe you don't but your life feels better

your soul is golden again    like when you were new

it's art blakey    fierce and cool like a crocodile

it's milt jackson    as smooth as fresh snow

it's bill evans    ahmad jamal    paul desmond

it's gerry mulligan    cannonball adderley    wynton marsalis

it's charlie parker and miles davis    slicing open the earth

with notes like steel    hearts like lions    with their fingers

on the pulse of something you can almost feel

that you want to feel, that you want to own.

it's you    with your head full of jazz

the music of being alive

When you do something, you should burn yourself up completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself.

Shunryu Suzuki

moanin' - art blakey and the jazz messengers

Music washes away the dust of every day life.

Art Blakey

Dragonflies rise in the slow heat. Sugar falls from their exquisite wings onto the waiting tongues of all creation. What is tomorrow? It is nothing. Don’t even think of it. Rise now in the slow heat. Shake the sugar from your wings as you fly. All of life in the beating of fine wings in the warmth of the air.
