that part of the night when the dew has formed
on the grass and on the park benches
but the sun is still a long time away
there is a magic to that time
like ghosts on the creek bank
like something moving in the underbrush
that you can never quite see
in that time of spirits and shadow
you can get down low and crawl
on your wet hands and knees
the wet dew
seeping through the knees of your pants
and perhaps see the reflection of the moon
in one dew drop or in them all
a thousand tiny moons
beautiful
ethereal
and the cold slowly coming on
through the wet cloth
and when you shiver you can feel the cold
in your soul
in your bones
and in your life.
shiver and behold
you are alive

the local farmers market
has the best bok choy
guy lan too
a hmong guy has a stand there
it’s fresh and free of chemicals
I like to bicycle over there really early
before the cars stink up the streets
cool morning air
also fresh and free of chemicals
if life had a color it would be green
like guy lan
like bok choy
if life had a verb it would be breathe

sliding into the rabbit's eye
your fur is worn like silk
long soft ears replace your human penis
your human vagina
your sex is now rodent-like
rabbit penis
rabbit vagina
collective thought
the hive mind
you have settled into the warren
your human children see you hopping
and they call out to you
you hear them
but you do not look back again
