as thick as pea soup

to be right all of the time is just as annoying 

as being wrong all of the time 

and to be wrong all of the time is like going around 

on all fours like a goat or a donkey 

making your animal noises and having to eat 

whatever garbage you happen to find

you can be right all of the time 

and no woman will love you 

not really    although one or two might love 

the shadow of you 

and the same with being wrong all of the time 

what woman wants that man 

with his foolishness   he is a goat   a donkey 

or you can try saying "I don't know 

and I don't care    I only want you 

not answers" and then when her eyes shine 

you scoop her up in your arms and love her 

show me a goat who can do that 

and we'll be finished with this nonsense

that owl seems to have something to say tonight 

but the full moon has all of my attention 

-----

let this world learn to not fear me 

it's only fair 

it took such a long time 

for me to learn not to fear the world 

even now   standing at the door 

there is a part of me that longs to run

a fog as thick as pea soup 

pull the car over and dish up a bowl

and suddenly there is her face again 

after so many long years
