daily rising well before dawn
to light the candles
and sit in meditation
life might race pass
but for myself
I far prefer to walk
*
writing very small poems and listening
to Mozart
from another room I can hear
my wife and granddaughter laughing
out loud
*
look in these eyes
my empty son
I too
am as empty as you
here comes a new wind
for us to ride
into the dark night
*
talking all night long with my father and his brother
campfire coffee with jack daniels whiskey poured in
laughing under the texas stars then sleeping at sunrise
the sunlight shining on the ripples of lake tawakoni
long long ago
