deep watering the trees

Ho Ryon Lee

stay true to yourself

even if the rest of us disappear

and you’re left alone to face

whatever the hell there is to face

even if the sheep and chickens

are lifted into heaven body and soul

even if the world declares war on itself again

stay true to yourself

and keep your heart open

-----

an hour in a waiting room feels like forever

but not a year

a year is the wink of your eye

yawn and a decade is gone

i think that tomorrow i will deep water all my trees

not today

tomorrow

-----

may we

as a people

find the strength

to hold on to our compassion

faith

hope

and love

and may i

as one person

find that strength as well

-----

that hope might cover everything

working the way that snow works

covering the land

covering all
