groaning and waking up

Granddaughter Khaleesi (Mother of Dragons) in the laundry basket.

The Sacramento Valley wind speaks, Putah Creek whispers, and the fields and farm lands listen intently. O dear sister, dear brother, will you not walk on and on through this valley?

If we could see the whole truth of any situation, our only response would be one of compassion.

Mingyur Rinpoche

I shelter in a room without a tree or much hope
Time is the one blanket to warm me here
No angels, no gods
Just a room to be safe
Behind a closed door

The weight of the world is love. Under the burden of solitude, under the burden of dissatisfaction.

Allen Ginsberg

Morning fog, cold air, then sunny later, with weak clouds. The Sacramento Valley wakes up like an old man. The bed is warm. He doesn’t want to get up, but groaning, he does.

Unconditional love is not so much about how we receive and endure each other, as it is about the deep vow to never, under any condition, stop bringing the flawed truth of who we are to each other.

Mark Nepo

In the dream, my Uncle Richard's ghost tells me of the horrors he endured in the Pacific during World War Two. A highly decorated veteran, he weeps for the friends he lost, and for the starved American POWs that were returned to America on the ship where he was stationed. He cries against my chest and I tell him that I love him. The alarm clock that wakes me sounds tinny, cheap, and far away.
