casting a shadow

even the least blade of grass 

casts a shadow 

the ocean is made up 

from tiny drops of water 

and the sky 

we breathe it up all the time 

an earthquake begins with just 

a rumble 

tornadoes start off as a gust of wind 

you have sat down to read a poem 

who knows what will come of it

to climb into this boat is to sail on the wrong river 

it is to go upstream 

when you think you want to go downstream 

did you think you were controlling anything

the direction is chosen by something 

that lurks deep in the water
