What it is I don’t understand.

america when will you allow in

the poor people with nothing at all

who want a chance to work and eat

and to send their children to schools

and churches and hospitals that are safe

who just want a roof over their heads

to call their own

america you are heartless and gutless

just brittle skin stretched over weak bones

you don’t feel anything anymore  do you

________

we hurt the mothers at birth

and they hurt us throughout childhood

sometimes they never stop

the fathers are seldom actually there

either physically gone or mentally gone

today I went to the place where we put

the last of our son’s ashes

and I wondered where I went wrong

what had I done or failed to do

and what is left to be done now maybe nothing

________

I am trying to understand this thing

but I am not sure what it is I don’t understand

that much I do understand

and it doesn’t help much  I can tell you that

________

may compassion be part of our deepest nature let it arise from our interconnection with all things

As long as it benefits even one being you have to,
without any sense of discouragement, go on.

Nature is the great teacher and always has been. Shakyamuni went to the jungle to find its teachings, Moses up the mountain, Jesus to the desert, and Muhammad to the caves. Sadly, we forget this, so it is important to have a practice that reminds us again.

Negative emotions are not a fixed reality and will naturally release their grip, if you give them the space to do so.
