you can knock on this door

"Poetry is the lifeblood of rebellion, revolution, and the raising of consciousness."
-Alice Walker

Take down your flags.

At some point, it will come to you
the way small thoughts come in the dawn:
your rifle is your crucifix,
your rifle is your penis,
your god and country are false.

It looks harsh, written like that.
Doesn't it?

It is more harsh when you squeeze the trigger.
The living who join the dead
were never your enemy.

The United States of Christianity lies
when they tell you to kill.

Murder is not anyone's duty.
Take down your flags.

You cannot kill your way to peace,
or even to victory. Every battle
is a loss for everyone.

Take down your flags.
I'm speaking here to every soldier,
from every country.

Shed that uniform like a skin
that has been worn out.

Break the weapons into bits
and walk away.

Take down your flags.
Peace in every footstep. -james lee jobe

"Jazz to me is a living music. It's a music that since its beginning has expressed the feelings, the dreams, hopes, of the people."
-Dexter Gordon

I love this book of my failures.
Each failure is a diamond or a bar of gold,
waiting for its turn to be polished.
And me, I spend my time with a polishing rag,
going from failure to failure.
Buffing. Shining.
It is a very large book.
Still, a blue sky today.
In the distance, the sounds of birds.
-james lee jobe

"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies."
-Groucho Marx

Sister, when the road is long,
you can rest here. Safely.
Brother, when your stomach is empty,
you can knock on this door,
and I will feed you.
Child, when you make mistakes,
I will help you,
I will not strike you.
Friends, when you hear me speak,
it will be words right from my heart.
We are all the same.
Let our lives be true.
-james lee jobe

"I'm famous. Ain't that a bitch!"
-Thelonius Monk
