what we love and believe

K. Wayne Thornley

blue sky in the morning
looking up into fresh air
I am two kinds of a man
sunrise and dusk
or light and dark
maybe right and wrong
purple sky in the evening
looking up into fresh air
the choices I've made
or failed to make
the measure of a human life
as the darkness grows
as the darkness grows

-

sitting in a circle   but no fire
this valley burns so easily now
join hands    pray   dream of water
joyous rain   the valley's bath

-

they come out of their everyday houses
bearing rifles and pistols
they exhale death with every breath
hatred is their heartbeat and name
judgment is the food that they eat
and they want us dead
because of what we love and believe
people
let love rule
let kindness rule

-

Restraint and patience. Wisdom and diligence. Kindness and generosity. May I seek out ways to practice these every day, and be thankful that I can.
