faith and fire the drumbeat of the earth

keep the fires burning
for whatever god you love the most
the most private of prayers
burns in the most quiet of hours
you and the flame
faith and fire
the drumbeat of the earth
the whispers of heaven
in the quiet folds of your ears
you have a secret name
and you speak it in the firelight

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

there is a field far away
where I once buried a diamond
it was so long ago
that I cannot remember exactly where the field is
or where on the field I did my digging
come sunrise let's go and search together
and until then let us count the seconds
as if they too were jewels
who can sleep when dawn is coming
and somewhere out there
a diamond is waiting

Midnight, the full moon, and a breeze blows down the valley. After sleeping for an hour I rise, sit on my meditation cushion, and pray. I to the universe, not to any god; you can laugh if you want to, or think I am foolish. I love science. I know the science of the moon, of the world, the solar system, creation. How humans developed from previous species. And I there's something lacking there, perhaps a science we have not yet discovered, a mystery we will solve one day, someday, that explains the spiritual connection of everything, because I know it exists. I feel it inside of me, this connection. I feel it when I see the moon, the stars, when another person touches my life. When the breeze blows down the valley at midnight. And I pray. The great mystery is my center, and I give thanks.
