putah creek is alive with the sounds
of rather small beings this noise
is pleasant and light like the sounds
when you take the wrapping paper
from a present a frog croaks
a woodpecker taps a heron wades
and makes tiny splashes I skip a rock
across the surface of the water
and the creek watches this
with the eyes of a mother keeping track of a child

In meditation we learn to cultivate and stretch the moments of being unencumbered, those places of non-suffering. We can experience the state of non-suffering with each breath, moment by moment, breathing in and breathing out.

bafflement and puzzlement can take up
a lot of time in a life sometimes too much
and we become like those rodeo clowns
being chased by the bull the paint
on our clown faces are mixed with shame
and fear the years mass together
into something larger than our dreams
do you remember the way home not me

There is nothing that war has ever achieved that we could not better achieve without it.

the full darkness of night is a secret kingdom
to me I spend half of my life in this kingdom
when daylight returns I cross the border
and return home the darkness calls me one way
and the light calls me back Oh what is this thing
that we call the life of a human being

There are three side effects of acid: enhanced long-term memory,
decreased short-term memory, and I forget the third.
Timothy Leary
if you can hide me cut a door into the gray sky and lock me behind it raise up the edge of the river and let me slip under while no one is watching hide me in trees hide me in seas I will shave off this beard and change my name I will purchase a hat that hides my eyes and shadows my face and sends a subconscious message to people on the street to move away from me I want silence and solitude I want secrecy I am dangerous I am ridiculous I am nothing nothing
