loving both the wind and the stillness

Starlit Woods, Charles Burchfield, 1917

A lone hunter stalking a deer
Just past sunrise
The sound of a footstep snapping a twig

Beside the creek a child, a boy, is weeping

But he isn’t a boy at all, he is a young man

And he has been dead now for a very long time

Really there is no one beside the creek but me

On an autumn morning with no people there

To see my tears, for I am the one who weeps

And I am afraid

Son, oh son, please come back to me

I love the dawn and the dusk, the starlight and the moonlight. I love the wind and I love the stillness. And I love that which is, and I try not to desire that which is not. Another day is here, and all I need to do is live it.

The things that matter most in our lives are not fantastic or grand. They are the moments when we touch one another.
