Walking On Three Legs

Mind is like a mad monkey.

-Sathya Sai Baba

And the frightening joy of the universe came to me.

Outside, under the cold January sky, with stars reaching from here to tomorrow. This life. To be so small and yet so large at the same time. A part of all that is, reaching across millions of light-years of creation. All of it is me, and I am all of it. The universe. My life.

-James Lee Jobe

People who own the world outright for profit will have to be
stopped; by influence, by power, by us.

-Wendell Berry

When I walk, it is on three legs.

First comes the leg that reaches from here to tomorrow. Next comes the leg that is rooted in today. And last of all is the wounded leg, the one that clings to the past. On these three legs I have limped through the years of a man's life. And I haven't really gone all that far.

James Lee Jobe

You ask how I spend my time:

I nestle against a tree trunk,

listening to the autumn winds

in the pines all day and all night.

Shantung wine can't get me drunk.

The local poets bore me.

My thoughts head south with you,

like the river, endlessly flowing.
