soft rain on your face

by jlj

the antidote

thin the bile with spring water
and add a full measure of hope
stir over a low fire of hickory
until the cynicism rises to the top
where you can scrape it off
(note: cynicism must be properly disposed of
not simply set aside to be stumbled upon
by the unwary)

stir in childish laughter
uninhibited sex
and the feel of soft rain on your face
let cool and then sift in the love of goodness
and all the kindness you can find
serve with music using the world as your table
and the sounds of the river as your plate
there
you're cured
share any leftovers with a friend

To brighten your life
You must
Widen your heart.
-Sri Chinmoy

the sunrise that follows

summer
night
we climbed the stairs with the lights off
we arrived at the top like rain
arriving on the dry earth
her naked body is hidden
in the hollows of my eyes
and in the hard vales
of my cupped hands
in her I found the dreams I required
to see me through until morning
she undermined the darkness
with the light of being alive
she gathered objects to her heart
the way a magnet can pull at steel
one of those objects was me
and another was the promise
of a sunrise to follow when we were done
with this act we closed the last door
of the long and quiet night

Other people have purpose;
I alone don't know.
I drift like a wave on the ocean,
I blow as aimless as the wind.
-Lao Tzu
